Below are some highlights of the work I've done in graphic & print design and interaction design. I have a strong interest in user experience and user interface design, and I've had the opportunity to work on a number of projects throughout my academic career.

Interaction Design

houselect: Tenant and Housing Management Website UI

For an independent class project, I used an ecological user interface design process to design a housing and tenant management website. Realizing that the current solution provided by the University of Waterloo was insufficient, I realized that I could design something simpler and easier to use. The high-fidelity prototype was assembled using HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript to simulate server response to user actions.

There were five phases to the project: 1) specifications documentation, 2) PowerPoint storyboard, 3) design critique, 4) high-fidelity prototype, 5) user testing and design documentation. Screenshots of the design process can be viewed below, while the high-fidelity prototype can be accessed here. Please note that though it is a high-fidelity prototype, user interaction is still very limited due to development time constraints.

Aeryon Missiong Planning UI

For a group class project, we met with Aeryon Labs Inc., makers of UAVs used for surveillance and photographic purposes. We were given the opportunity to apply user-centred design methods to create a new prototype for planning missions using these UAVs.

We held interviews with Aeryon employees, gathered requirements from a specific user group – in this case, night security, and developed low-, medium-, and high-fidelity prototypes. My tasks included creating all graphics to be used in the project and to create the high-fidelity Flash prototype.

The primary goal was to create a simple and learnable interface. I designed the graphics to be heavily icon-dependent, which would be reflected on the actual maps. The high-fidelity prototype can be viewed here (note: resolution is 1024 × 768).

Physical Anthropology Data Gathering Prototype

For a group class project, we interviewed and analyzed the data collection process of a physical anthropologist / archaeologist. Applying HCI techniques, user-centred design, and contextual inquiry, a prototype for computer-driven fossil data collection was created. We conducted low- and medium-fidelity usability studies with our user which drove our iterative desin process. The prototype's goals were to improve the depth, robustness, and redundancy of the collected data.
